Google Fast Flip

I've never heard of this, but apparently it's been around a while, at least a couple of weeks (which is an eternity when it comes to Google). Google Fast Flip provides a wide range of news sources for any search conducted. I searched for Swine Flu and got results from the BBC, Washington Post, and US Weekly. Boolean searching greatly diminishes the results you get, but typing anything in the search box yields numerous humorous results. Could be useful for getting news results from a variety of sources. Could also waste some time on a boring afternoon. ;)

Google Digitizes LIFE

Don't Panic! It's a good thing.

Google books has announced that they have digitized and made available all 1,860 issues of LIFE Magazine from 1936 to 1972. Jump right in! I haven't had a chance to look around much yet, but can anyone deny that LIFE is a valuable resource? And it looks like Google has done a wonderful job preserving the amazing LIFE photographs that chronicle US history like no other publication has managed to do.

Cool Uses of Government Data - Apps for America

Cool (and very useful) mashups using U.S. government federal and state data. Share these apps with a friend. (-:

1) DataMasher
Easily and quickly mashup data from various states. Amazing.

2) GovPulse
This will make the Federal Register so much easier to access and use.

The Federal Register is the official journal of the federal government of the United States. In it, you’ll find any kind of proposal, notification, or solicitation for data that a federal agency puts out. It’s the pulse of your government.

For much of its existence the Federal Register has had no easily accessible form. govpulse seeks to change this and enable you to respond to your government. We give you a way to browse the Register (from 1994 on) and use filters to decide what is important to you. And then act on it.

3) ThisWeKnow

Provide citizens with a single destination where they can explore all the information from the Data.gov catalog.
